Benedict
Eccles, SSTYP's Artistic Producer has recently been appointed
to the Board of Assitej - the World Theatre Network of theatre
for children and young people. ASSITEJ was established in
1965 by a global alliance of professional theatre companies,
and links thousands of theatres, organisations and individuals
through national centres in more than 82 countries. Benedict
said "I have been attending international theatre festivals
organised by Assitej for several years so as to help increase
the quality of the work we make for children in Swindon .
The organisation's members consist of some of the best theatre
companies in the world and I was very flattered to be asked
to join the UK Board of about 12 members''.
Benedict
was also nominated and elected to join the board of directors
of the UK's leading arts management association, The Independent
Theatre Council in December. The ITC represents 700 arts organisations
across the UK and provides members with the comprehensive
package of services including government lobbying, legal representation,
industrial relations advice and professional development opportunities
for arts professionals- it's quite a big responsibility to
represent the interest of such a large and important membership
of arts organisations that actual create work for audiences
throughout the UK.
