Projects & Residencies
Sixth Sense Theatre for Young People
is committed to promoting access to, participation in and
ownership of theatre by young people and as such welcomes
the opportunity, where possible, to develop relationships
with young peoples organisations in order to promote the benefits
of theatre further to young people. On this page you
will find some recent examples...
Breakfast
Lunch Dinner
In April 2008, six
young people from the SMASH Youth Project (Swindon Mentoring
& Self Help) performed a piece of theatre that they had
written and developed with two of our practitioners. It was
entitled "Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner" and told their various
stories through dialogue and drama along with Dance and even
song. The performance was attended by teachers, parents
and representatives from children's services.
Keeping
Children Safe
What are the consequences
of mobile phone bullying, walking home from a friends house
late at night, talking to strangers on the internet, or not
telling a parent where you're going after school? Two
of our actors recently delivered the 'Keeping Children Safe'
project to our partner schools in Swindon during Drama Focus
Week (October 2007) to provide drama as a learning resource
for personal development to students in Yr 5 & 6.
The schools that participated include: Commonweal, Lethbridge,
Even Swindon, St Lukes & Robert Le Kyng.
Building
Planets
The idea was to
engage local school children with the New National Trust headquarters
building in Heelis so as to raise awareness of environmental
conservation, and to encourage schools to monitor and improve
their environmental performance...it appears the project has
worked!!
A
selection of schools in Swindon were invited to see our actors
Annabel Field and Mark Bodicoat perform a play at the National
Trust Building about the environmental challenges faced today.
The young people were then taken on a tour of the National
Trust building by the actors, carrying out certain related
activities on the way to help identify ways of combating problems
such as carbon pollution, deforestation, recycling and energy
efficiency.
Why
the National Trust Headquarters? Simple! Sustainablility
is a key issue in the National Trust's philosophy. For
example, the building takes daylighting and natural ventalation
of offices in a new direction and demonstrates how a building
can funtion cost- effectively.

Coleshill
Drama Project
Students from Uplands
and Coleshill School involved in the Drama Project were invited
to Coleshill Farm to learn about Colehills' history, and discover
why it is such an interesting place. The schools' used
some of the history, atmosphere and stories surrounding Coleshill
to base a play upon, which was performed to families and friends
in July 07.
