Work Experience placements (ongoing):
We welcome applications to join us for a either 1 month or one day a week for twelve consecutive weeks on work placements. The placements are designed to provide people in, entering or just completing higher education an insight into small scale theatre, and is a good way of thinking about theatre as a career path. This might suit Media, Performing Arts, Production and Educational course modules.
From your placement you can generally expect:
- Information in advance about the Company
- Involvement with Swindon Youth Theatre, the Company's education and outreach programme, and professional theatre production programme.
- Hands on involvement with an event/activity
- Career advice
- Administrative tasks (i.e. direct mailing/print distribution/data analysis)
If you are interested in applying, please send a CV and covering letter (max 300 words) explaining what you want from your placement to Jemma Baker, Sixth Sense Theatre for Young People, Theatre Square, Swindon SN1 1QN.
Please include when you would like your placement to commence, and how long you are available for. If we consider that the requested dates would not offer a suitable placement experience (for example, if the Company has little activity scheduled) we will try and offer alternative dates if possible.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to attend a short interview with Sixth Sense's Artistic Producer and Company Administrator. We are very happy to talk through the opportunity in more detail.
Swindon Youth Theatre perform at Steam:
NALGAO - the National Association of Local Government Arts Officers held its annual conference in Swindon this year. As part of the event, which took place in October, Swindon Youth Theatre hosted the artistic element of the Civic Reception by way of writing, devising and performing a promenade piece at Swindon's very own Steam Museam. 35 members of the youth theatre were involved- and truely 'wowed' the Arts Officers who had no idea Swindon was working with young people in this way. Congratulations to all involved- you really showed NALGAO what the arts are all about, and how by working together with other arts organisations in spite of the challenging times we live in, we can really make a difference through the arts.
